The pie charts illustrate the proportion of copies sold by five different book categories from a local book retailer after 40 years, from 1972 to 2012. Overall, both adults' and children’s fiction witnessed a growth in their number of sold books, whereas the opposite was true for the other genres. 

In terms of fictional works, this genre took the lion's share as children’s and adult’s novel sales were considerably higher than those of other categories. However, the latter had a more significant increase than the former. To be specific, after four decades, fiction dedicated to adult readers surged by over a half, from 20% in 1972 to 45% in 2012. Meanwhile, children’s novel sales only increased by 5% during this period. 

On the other hand, there was barely any positive change regarding the sales of biographies, travel, and other books. Particularly, biography books underwent the most dramatic decrease, as the sold copies figure depleted to more than half, accounting for fewer than 10% in 2012. For travel guides, albeit a slight rise, experienced a fall of 8% in 2012.

Mặt khác, hầu như không có thay đổi tích cực nào về doanh số bán sách tiểu sử, du lịch và các loại sách khác. Đặc biệt, sách tiểu sử đã trải qua sự giảm mạnh nhất, với số lượng sách bán ra giảm hơn một nửa, chỉ chiếm dưới 10% vào năm 2012. Đối với sách hướng dẫn du lịch, mặc dù có tăng nhẹ nhưng đã giảm 8% vào năm 2012.
