The charts compare the average daily time spent by UK men and women on household and leisure activities in 2008.

Overall, women devoted more time to household chores, while men spent more on leisure activities, particularly in passive entertainment like TV and active involvement in repairs. This reflects a traditional gender role distribution in the UK during 2008.

In terms of leisure activities, men spent more time on TV, video, and radio at 137 minutes, compared to women’s 118 minutes. Reading times were almost equal, with men at 18 minutes and women at 19 minutes. Men dedicated 15 minutes to sports, while women spent only 11 minutes.

For household activities, women spent significantly more time on cooking and washing, averaging 74 minutes daily, whereas men spent around 30 minutes. In shopping, women again led with approximately 35 minutes, compared to men’s 20 minutes. Repair activities saw a reversal, with men spending about 15 minutes, while women spent around 5 minutes. Clothes washing and ironing were predominantly done by women, taking 25 minutes, while men allocated about 10 minutes.
