Do you often cook in your family?

To be honest, I rarely cook. My mom handles the everyday meals. I usually have to work overtime, so I come home late and miss the chance to cook. However, on special occasions, I love to roll up my sleeves, pitch in, and show off my cooking skills a bit. It’s fun to whip up some delicious dishes and enjoy the time together in the kitchen.

Did your parents teach you to share the housework when you were little?

Yes, definitely. Helping to prepare meals and doing the dishes were part of my daily tasks. They taught me discipline and how to be responsible. I might not have been able to tackle the big chores, but I could certainly pitch in with the small things like tidying up the kitchen and wiping down the counters. Even though my contributions were small, it made me feel like I was part of the family team. 

Part 2

Describe a happy event in your childhood or at school. You should say:

– what it is

– when it happened

– how you felt at the time

And explain why you remember this particular occasion.

Bài mẫu

One of the happiest events from my childhood happened when I was in grade 6. I joined a cooking competition at my secondary school. I'm not sure why I signed up, but it turned out to be fun and exciting.

I remember I didn’t win anything, but I felt so proud because I managed to make a complex dish all by myself. I didn’t have much time to decorate it, so I just put all the food in one big bowl. Unlike other tables, mine didn’t have any flower decorations because I didn’t even know we were supposed to do that. When the judges, who were also our teachers, came around to each table, every other table was beautifully presented with lots of great food, and carved fruits. My table looked plain in comparison. But, I was thrilled because the judges finished my whole bowl and said it was delicious, even though they gave me no points for presentation which made sense. I was over the moon. My classmates couldn’t believe it and started asking for more so they could try it too. Luckily, I had made a huge portion, just in case. They ate it all and showered me with praise. They finished every last bit, which made me think it was genuinely good and not just them trying to encourage me.

I didn’t win any official prizes, but seeing my friends’ happy faces and knowing they enjoyed my cooking filled me with confidence and joy. It was a wonderful experience that I still cherish whenever I look back.

Part 3

What special events do people in your country celebrate?

Vietnamese people have a great sense of community so they will gather together whenever they get the chance. Weddings, holidays like Tet, and family reunions are all big occasions. We also celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with mooncakes and lanterns, and National Day with parades and fireworks. 

What do people do to prepare to celebrate the events?

It depends on the event, but one thing's for sure. There's always a big feast involved. Food is always a central part of our celebrations, though the dishes vary based on each occasion. Besides that, people also have to clean and decorate their houses to suit the themes of the celebration.
