Topic: Describe an occasion that somebody or something was making a lot of noise

You should say:

  • Where you were
  • What you were doing
  • Who/what was making the noise
  • And explain how the noise affected you.

I remember this one time when I was deeply engrossed in studying for the national university entrance exam. It was one of those crucial moments where every minute of revision counted. I was at my desk, surrounded by notes and textbooks, trying to concentrate on the complex book in front of me. Then, out of the blue, my neighbor decided it was the perfect time to start a singing marathon. Now, I'm all for people enjoying their hobbies, but this was something else. The singing wasn't just a brief, cheerful tune, it went on and on, song after song for three straight hours. It was like a never-ending concert right next to my wall.

Finally, I decided to handle the situation gently. I went over to have a chat with him, hoping for some understanding. I explained politely that I was preparing for a vital exam and asked if he could perhaps keep the volume down. But the response I got was far from what I expected. He just slammed the door in my face and continued with his singing, completely ignoring my request. It was incredibly frustrating and disrespectful. Trying to prepare for one of the most important exams of my life, and there was this relentless noise that just wouldn't stop. That whole incident really got under my skin. It was so distracting and made it super hard for me to keep my focus on studying. It felt like my efforts and the importance of my exam were being completely undermined by this thoughtless behavior.

Bài mẫu IELTS Part 3

1. What kinds of places should be noise-free?

I just can come up with a place like libraries. They're sanctuaries of learning and contemplation, where silence is golden. In these hallowed halls, the only sounds you should hear are the flipping of pages and the quiet hum of concentrated study.

sanctuaries: thiêng liêng

contemplation: suy ngẫm

2. Can people bring children to these noise-free places?

Well, that's a bit of a gray area. If the kids can adhere to the rules and maintain the quiet, then absolutely, yes! It's a fantastic opportunity for them to learn about respecting communal spaces and enjoying the wonders of these places. It's all about teaching them the value of silence in certain settings and ensuring they understand how to be considerate of others seeking a tranquil environment.

adhere to the rules: tuân theo quy định

communal spaces: không gian chung

tranquil environment: môi trường yên tĩnh

3. Why can’t people make noise in a church?

Noise is a big no in a church because these are places of worship and reflection. Churches offer a serene atmosphere for spiritual contemplation and connecting with a higher power. It's about creating an environment where everyone can find peace and solace without distractions. The quiet of a church is not just about tradition but it's about fostering a respectful space where individuals can engage in personal reflection and find comfort in their thoughts and prayers.

worship: thờ phụng

4. What public morals should people follow in your country?

In Vietnam, one of the key public morals people are expected to follow is showing respect to elders. It's a beautiful aspect of our culture that emphasizes filial piety and reverence for those who have paved the way before us. This respect manifests in our language, our actions, and how we prioritize the well-being and opinions of the older generation. It's a fundamental value that strengthens family bonds and community ties, reflecting the deep-rooted respect and veneration for age and experience in Vietnamese society.

filial piety: lòng hiếu thảo

reverence: kính trọng

have paved the way before us: những người đi trước

fundamental: cơ bản
