Can you find food from many different countries where you live?

Of course! There are many residential areas for foreigners, and you can find their local cuisines being served in each of the areas. Most of the food is from other Asian countries such as Chinese, Korean and Japanese dishes. Western food also exists, but it’s harder to come by and more often than not the quality is subpar.

How often do you eat typical food from other countries?

I would say once or twice a week. I have a few specific dishes that help cheer me up when I’m feeling down or when I’m snowed under with work. If that happens, I will try to grab a bowl of Ramen or a portion of Takoyaki, which is a sort of ball-shaped Japanese snack made from a thick batter with chunks of octopus inside.

Have you ever tried making food from another country?

Yes, I have. I like to find new and unique recipes online and try them out. I have always been interested in learning about different flavor profiles and textures so I try to experiment as much as I can. The last foreign dish that I made was carbonara with pasta that I made from scratch. 

What food from your country would you recommend to people from other countries?

To be honest, I would not recommend the most famous dish which is Phở. I think a better introduction to Vietnamese cuisine to foreigners is Bún bò Huế, which is also a beef noodle soup. However, it has more intense flavors and a much richer broth that foreigners can easily notice. Once people have gotten used to our cuisine, they can try dishes with subtle flavors such as Phở.
