TOPIC: Describe an exciting activity that you experienced with someone else

You should say:

  • Who you were with?
  • When and where it happened?
  • What the activity was?
  • And explain how you felt about it?

It was about three years ago at an amusement park. My friend and I decided to try the roller coaster,  a towering, twisting beast of a ride. I've always been a bit afraid of heights, so you can imagine the mix of fear and excitement bubbling up inside me. As we climbed into the coaster car, my heart was pounding like a drum. The roller coaster experience was a wild blend of fear, excitement, and pure adrenaline. As the coaster climbed, my fear of heights kicked in, but as we zoomed down those steep drops and whirled around the sharp bends, the fear transformed into exhilaration. It was like flying without wings, a rush of wind and speed that left us both breathless and laughing uncontrollably.

I remember getting off the ride, legs wobbly but spirits sky-high. The fear of heights was still there, but the excitement and the sense of accomplishment from overcoming it were even greater. Sharing that with my best friend made it all the more special. It was a day of conquering fears, enjoying the thrills, and making memories that would last a lifetime.

1. What kinds of activities do young people like to do?

Young people's preferences for activities really depend on their personalities, but there's a general trend towards trying new and exciting things. It's about exploring, pushing boundaries, and experiencing something different from the norm. Whether it's engaging in extreme sports, traveling to exotic locations, they seek activities that offer a sense of adventure and novelty

2. Why do some young people like adventurous activities?

Many young people are drawn to adventurous activities for the adrenaline rush and the desire to experience and learn from new things. Though I'm not particularly adventurous myself, I understand the appeal. It's about challenging oneself, stepping out of comfort zones, and experiencing the thrill of the unknown. These activities provide a unique way to explore the world and oneself, often leading to personal growth and unforgettable experiences.

3. Do you think old people would like to have changes?

Regarding older people and changes, it's often believed that they prefer a calm and peaceful life. As people age, their priorities and preferences might shift towards stability and comfort. Of course, this isn't true for everyone, as some continue to seek adventure well into their later years. But generally, there’s a tendency to enjoy the quieter, more predictable aspects of life, cherishing tranquility over change.

4. Why can exciting activities relieve people’s stress?

Exciting activities can be effective stress relievers because they allow people to momentarily forget about daily life and its pressures. Engaging in these activities often leads to the release of endorphins, the body's feel-good chemicals. It's like hitting a reset button for the mind, where the focus shifts from stressors to the exhilaration of the moment. The rush and excitement provide a much-needed break from the routine, rejuvenating the mind and body.

5. Can you give some (other) examples of adventurous or risky activities?

Some examples of adventurous or risky activities include skiing, where one navigates the snowy slopes, and extreme sports like skateboarding often referred to as X Games. They are about speed, skill, and sometimes defying gravity, offering an intense experience for thrill-seekers.

6. What skills do people need to take part in adventurous activities?

The key skill people need is the ability to overcome fear and anxiety. It's like mastering the art of courage. Adventurous activities often push you out of your comfort zone, so being able to face and conquer your fears is crucial.
