The two bar charts show the proportion of 14-16-year-old students studying a modern foreign language in an English-speaking country and the top three popular foreign languages. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar charts illustrate the percentages of male and female students aged 14-16 studying a foreign language in an English-speaking country in two different years, 1984 and 2007, and also highlighted the popularity of the top three languages chosen.
Overall, there was a downward trend in the proportion of students choosing to study foreign languages over the periods shown. Moreover, while French and German witnessed a decline in popularity, Spanish became more common among students.
In 1984, there was a notable gender disparity in language study, with approximately 50% of female students going for a modern foreign language compared to only about 30% of males choosing it. Twenty-four years later, the figures for language pursuit declined moderately for both boys and girls, to 40% and 25% respectively.
In terms of language preferences, although French dominated as the most popular language of choice among students in both years, there was a significant decrease for it, from 50% in 1984 to 25% in 2007. In the same period, German experienced a minor drop from 20% to 15% while remaining the second most popular language in 2007. Conversely, Spanish registered an increase in popularity, as it was studied by 10% of students in 2007, doubling its initial figure in 1984.

In the modern era, the matter of how a performance should be enjoyed has ignited a passionate discussion among people in many parts of the world. While many believe attending live events is more pleasurable, others contend that it would be better to watch them on television. Consequently, this essay argues that despite the cost-effectiveness of watching live performances on television, they should be enjoyed directly due to the immersive experiences offered.
On the one hand, watching live shows such as plays, concerts, or sporting events on television is more affordable compared to enjoying them on the spot. It is undeniable that ticket prices for these events are often very exorbitant, in addition to the peripheral costs of travel, accommodation and food. For example, a ticket for the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar cost hundreds of dollars per person to attend. Audiences from foreign countries, consequently, had to pay thousands of dollars to cover not only the ticket price but also other expenses related to attending the event. Therefore, a great number of low-budget fans decided to watch the match on screen so that they were able to both follow the event and save their money.
On the other hand, audiences watching a live performance first-hand could be provided with a more engaging atmosphere, which might never be replicated on television. For instance, when going to the Eras Tour of Taylor Swift, her ardent fans were more likely to be blown away by the on-stage visual effects and the superlative musicianship on display. Most concert-goers feel compelled to sing along and join in the communal experience. In contrast, watching that same concert on television could make the in-person ambience and the sense of immersion less lively since the sound is not as clear and the stage effects will come off less impressive. As a result, people feel more engrossed in a live event if they witness it in person.
In conclusion, in spite of the financial convenience of enjoying a live performance at home, on-site watching should be encouraged because of its level of immersion that cannot be imitated on television.
