Task 2: Some people believe that technology causes more problems for modern society than it solves. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Many believe that modern technological development has done more harm than good to both the individual and society as a whole. I completely agree with this notion since we are encountering several complications that have stemmed from technology.

First, the rapid integration of advanced technologies in various industries has led to the displacement of human workers. It can be denied that innovative technology surpasses human abilities in various aspects. For example, AI has changed the game completely, many processes can be performed by an AI virtual assistant in a fraction of a second. Therefore, individuals need to adapt by acquiring IT-related skills to secure employment opportunities in a digitalized workforce which is extremely hard for many people, especially the unprivileged ones, and this may easily trigger an increase in the unemployment rate.

When it comes to technology, particularly in the form of smartphones, computers, and video games, it has encouraged a sedentary lifestyle. Most people nowadays opt to stay at home, engaging in virtual activities rather than participating in outdoor activities. This shift to a more inactive lifestyle has caused various physical and mental health problems such as obesity, anxiety, and a lack of social interactions which have deteriorated public well-being.

Moreover, the digital age has introduced numerous privacy concerns. The lack of online security measures and the exposure of sensitive data have left individuals vulnerable to data breaches and identity theft. In an era where information is the new currency, safeguarding personal data and maintaining privacy have become critical challenges. Cybersecurity threats, such as hacking and phishing, have emerged as nefarious activities exploiting technology’s vulnerabilities.

In conclusion, while technological advancements have undoubtedly improved our lives in many ways, they have also introduced unprecedented challenges. It is imperative that we address these concerns proactively and develop strategies to mitigate the negative aspects of technology’s influence on modern society.
